Hi, let me take a moment to introduce myself and share a little of my story.

My name is Simon.  I live on the beautiful South West Coast of England, am married to Ali and have 5 children.

I am a qualified Health Coach who loves to spend as much time as possible outdoors.

I love to grow things, especially fruit and vegetables, and so I suppose this is where my journey began.  It doesn’t take long to realise that food you grow yourself tastes a whole lot better than that bought in a supermarket. 

The simple question I asked myself was “Why?” and it doesn’t take much searching to realise that there are some BIG issues with much of our food production.

As a family we made a decision to be more aware of what we were consuming.  We wanted to cut down on the amount of chemicals we were putting into and onto our bodies.  It was a lifestyle choice.  We knew that not everything we ate had a positive effect on our bodies and so we chose to change.  We wanted a more healthy life.

We grew more of our own vegetables, cut out as much processed food as possible and ate as much organically grown food as we could afford.

This is turn led to other changes.  As we began to think about our health and wellbeing our focus expanded to include other areas of our lives.  And over a few years we began to think about living more simply, finding ways to slow our lives down, to make time for those things that “really” matter, and to be more conscious of the things that were going on around us.

For 7 years, up until January 2020, we farmed a 4 acre smallholding in the South West of England.  In January, with the land owners having sold the land, we decided to move our “growing” back to our home, and so the past few months, have been a frenetic mix of garden designing, landscaping and planting.  My studies in Permaculture have directed the way in which we have designed our gardens and how we grow our food.

Permaculture combines three key aspects:

1. An ethical framework

2. Understandings of how nature works

3. A design approach

This unique combination provides an ethical framework that is used to design regenerative systems at all scales – from home and garden to community, farm and bioregions.

The word ‘permaculture’ comes originally from ‘permanent agriculture‘ and ‘permanent culture‘ – it is about living lightly on the planet, and making sure that we can sustain human activities for many generations to come, in harmony with nature.

Permanence is not about everything staying the same. It is about stability, about deepening soils and cleaner water, thriving communities in self-reliant regions, biodiverse agriculture, and social justice, peace and abundance.

A few years ago Ali was struck with pain in her stomach.  Tests were carried out over a long period of time, and to cut a long story short, she was discharged with no diagnosis, and in still as much pain.  We had no choice but to explore other ways of tackling her pain.  Our starting point was diet. 

We were already eating relatively healthily but now we had to dig deeper to find out whether a particular food or food group was contributing to the pain.   It turned out that she has a reaction to gluten, which when avoided lessens the pain.  There is still more to be done and more to investigate to allow her to be free from pain and so our journey continues.

This got me thinking about the relationship between diet and pain and how for some of us eating certain foods can affect our bodies in negative ways.  So over the past 3 years I’ve read and researched lots of information, reflected upon all that I’ve learnt over the past 15 years and have come to this conclusion –

It is possible to improve our quality of life, lessen pain or even eradicate it completely by changing our lifestyles and diet.

With all that I’ve learnt over the past 15 years or so I am convinced that there are a number of simple practices that we can adopt that can have a huge impact on the way we live our lives.

And that’s the reason for LIVING FREE FROM – a way of sharing those discoveries to help others.

I have compiled much of what I have learnt and discovered and created an accessible and sustainable Health and Wellbeing Program which I truly believe can help many people to transform their lives – it’s called the TRANSFORMATION PROGRAM.
